Autumn is upon us! You may have already started to pull out your winter clothes and think about shopping for new season updates. Nothing says winter like a coat. These pieces are an investment for a reason – they keep us cosy and stylish even on the chilliest of days. However, you need to take care of your coat to keep it looking crisp wear after wear, season after season. To help you, we have put together a few tips on how to keep your coat looking fresh.
Start with cleaning.
If you have pulled your coat out of storage or the back of the wardrobe, chances are it needs a good clean! Check the care label as it has details of how to best wash/dry clean/spot clean your coat. A good dry clean will have your coat fresh and ready for the winter season.
Hang it on a quality hanger.
Treat your coat to a quality coat or wooden hanger. This will help it keep its shape and stop it stretching out. Give your coat a bit of room to breathe in your wardrobe or keep it in a separate space so it doesn’t get squashed.
Hang in the fresh air.
We all love a bit of fresh air. Every time you return home wearing your coat, hang it on a quality hanger in a well ventilated space to air out. Fresh air helps the material stay crisp and minimises the need for washing. To allow the wrinkles to fall out and elasticity to bounce back, it is recommended to let your coat rest for 24 hours before wearing again.
Spot clean and empty pockets.
After each wear, check the pockets and remove all items. Check the coat for any stains. Spot clean if needed by patting the fabric with a damp cloth. Do not rub the coat as you may damage the fabric.
Brush your coat.
A suede brush is good for removing surface oils or lint. Brush your coat regularly with a lint brush or wool comb. This simple step will keep your coat looking fresh and new.
With the right care, your coat will look great season after season. It just takes a few minutes each time you wear it.
